There’s a somewhat common misconception about just how long LG has been a strong player, and an integral component of the most advanced consumer electronics and home appliances industries. Both companies were were founded as part of a concerted effort to support the nation of Korea in its efforts to become reestablished following the Korean War. Goldstar operated as a domestically based company emerging from an augmenting effort by the nation to restore its viability, both nationally and on a global basis. The first products Goldstar offered were (domestically produced) consumer electronics and home appliances.
Emergence Onto the American Turf
Sales of LG Electronics proved to be highly successful, among American consumers, and in 1978, 100 million USD in company revenue necessitated the establishment of LG’s first overseas production location– in the United States. And by 1982, Goldstar officially became “LG Electronics,” with the development of a new “LG” logo. Among some of the first successful company products were the world’s first CDMA digital mobile handsets, which were supplied to the Ameritech and GTE companies. The world’s first 60-inch plasma TV was a product of–none other than–LG, in 1998. In 1998, when LG merged with Philips to become LG Philips LCD, which today is known as LG Display.
LG Electronics as a Forever Formidable Force
LG Electronics has sustained splits, name changes and mergers, with the original DBA of Goldstar no longer in existence. Throughout the world wide consumer electronics industry, LG continues to be a major player. Its affiliated display manufacturer LG Display became (and is now) the world’s largest LCD panel manufacturer.
Expansion to Phones
During the year 2005, LG launched the popular LG Chocolate phone. LG’s decision to enter the smartphone industry came about in 2010, and especially since that time, LG Electronics has continued to expand its volume and range of various electronics products.

During the fall of 2014, LG released to the retail market, its world’s first, 84″ Class Ultra High Definition 3D TV with Smart TV, which, for a modest price of $19,999, can be the perfect complement to any home. LG’s remote uses Hillcrest Labs’ Freespace technology to allow users to change channels by using simple gestures,and adopted the popular Dragon Naturallyspeaking technology for providing users with the most advanced method of voice recognition.
LG: About Time
In June of 2014 LG joined together with Google to present the LG G Watch, which was the Android Wear-based smartwatch. And then In August 2014, the LG G Watch R, with its signature round face was released on the market by LG. The G watch urbane is the product of LG’s third android watch engineering, and was released for the retail market in April of 2015, as the first device that supports new features like Wi-Fi, and new elements of Android Wear’s software interface, like enabling the ability of users to draw emojis to all their friends.
LG’s Smartphone Industry Contributions
When LG introduced the LG G Flex, they changed the game and raised the bar by giving us the LG G Flex. In signature LG fashion, they went far outside the box with their contribution of a cleverly curved, and highly flexible smartphone that offered a considerably different take on what were perceived as limits for ‘newly’ conventional smartphone concepts. In overwhelming industry response, LG’s impressive innovative advancements netted them many awards for their cutting-edge design processes and such immaculate engineering success. Among the more prominent accolades extended to LG were the Global Mobile Award, and the GSMA Award Committee (represented by mobile specialists and leading industry analysts, named LG Electronics the Most Innovative Device Manufacturer of the Year at Mobile World Congress. LG revealed their top eight smartphone models, including LG G Pro 2, LG G Flex, LG G2 mini, LG F Series and LG L Series III under the theme, Knock and Discover Tomorrow.
An Industry Leader
LG has continued to receive industry awards, in a prolific succession, and found itself in the international spotlight again at the 2014 iF Design Awards,in their efforts to recognize and highlight the most influential product designs (honoring a total of 26 products,) with the LG Flex, with its being selected as the 2014 iF Gold Award Winner, with its new approach for all smartphone design. Leading features were the unique placement of the rear key feature designed to house the volume and power controls in one convenient spot on the back of the device. Studies revealed how this was the most instinctual resting place for the user’s index finger to be, while using the phone for calls. The LG LG G2 smartphone earned the CES 2014 Innovation Award distinction at the fierce competition of their wireless handset category. In true LG fashion that began with their mid- 1950s inception, LG reigns as an envelope pushing technological leader, industry-wide.
